Do You still have no baby years after you marriage?

Having a baby is a common dream that many people have. Some persons marry just to have a baby. Many parents spend their whole life in raising the babies. So, practically having a baby is something very important in our lives.
Now a days, there is a rising problem of having babies.

It is been seen that this very problem is getting serious day by day. We all know that a baby is created by the fusion of male part and female part. ow there may be either problem in male part or there may be problem in female part. Both part may be problematic and sometimes there cannot be diagnosed in which part the problem lies.
Now, there is a social dogma that if a couple is not blessed with a child, the female is blamed. But from the epidemiology of the infertility, you can see the causes of infertility are as follows:

Male cause – 30%
Female cause – 30%
Both – 10%
Unexplained – 25%
Other – 5%

So, you can well understand that the social dogma is very illogical as 30% infertility is caused due to male and female factor, both.
If there is no conception (becoming pregnant) after sexual intercourse for one year without any methods of contraception (without using condoms, pills, etc), it is regarded as Infertility for a couple. Infertile couple may be depressed very much and may have to face the embarassment in the society. Although it is a shame that we cannot fix the social dogma as well as this very simple thing that everyone might not have by, the good news is there is many treatment available, both drugs treatment and interventional.

How The Baby is Made?

A Baby is made by fusion of male and female part. When a male releases the white fluid into the female’s canal, from that white fluid, many small cells (in fact, the smallest kind in our body) swim towards the female’s inside organ, Uterus and hence, the fallopian tube.

Millions of sperms are released during each intercourse. From vagina, these sperms swim upwards towards uterus. They are aided by secretions with the female organ. These secretions give the sperms a medium through which they can swim easily. Many get blocked in the way. Many sperms get destroyed. Specially those sperms that have good shapes, good physical properties and biological properties including well preserved functions like sperms which can swim well, will reach the fallopian tube. In the fallopian tube, a cell called Ova (human egg) is waiting for the sperms. About some hundreds of sperms reach the ova. Out of hundreds, only one sperm can start interacting with the female egg (ova).

Hence, the inner material (DNA) of that sperm can only enter the female egg and fuse with it. This fusion product is called as zygote. Then this zygote get attached in the wall of the Uterus of the female (or Mother) within a course of 8-9 days and starts developing as baby for next 9 months.

Inside Female: The external most is vagina through which sperms travels towards fallopian tubes via uterus

Why and How Infertility Occurs?

Infertility occurs in many stages. Let me divide it in several stages:

Step 1: Healthy Relationship and Time are two required factors. In some cases, it is seen that husband is very busy due to this work, hampering their sexual life.

Step 2: Hormones should be normal in both male and female. Other factors in blood also should be normal

Step 3: Considering a normal length cycle of the female, it is better to carry out intercourse within 10 days – 17 days of the female cycle. Actually female egg has to be released, after which, intercourse is meaningful in terms of fertility.
How You Can Determine When Egg has been released?
During the release of egg (or ovulation), the female should have some changes: may have vaginal discharge, back pain, breast tenderness, little bit increased body temperature (~0.5℃), ferning of saliva, abdominal bloating, etc.
Having intercourse from 10 days to 17 days of the female cycle is considered the most effective in terms of having baby.

Step 4: Sperms quality should be good. The morphology, motility, etc should be within standard (World Health Organization Standards). The number of sperms in the whole ejaculated liquid (semen) should be within standard.

Step 5: The female tract from vagina to fallopian tube must be patented, that is, there must be no obstruction.

Step 6: There may be mismatch of DNA materials between the male and female.

Step 7: The Walls of the uterus may be incompatible for attachment of the fusion product.

Even after these seven steps, there may be unknown causes or factors that may cause infertility.

Now The Good News

There are many treatments available ranging from drugs to assisted reproductive techniques. Giving some simplest examples:
In case of patient have abnormal hormones, drugs can be given to correct it and have pregnancy. In case of a patient having bad sperm quality (like less sperms count), then Techniques like Intra Uterine Insemination can be done by choosing some sperms of good quality under microscope and instead of releasing them in vagina, will be released near fallopian tubes. So, high amount of sperms are required due to the fact that many sperms cannot reach the fallopian tube. In this case, some sperms are choosen and released near Fallopian Tube (or near ova), so, no question of loosing sperms. Thus, all the sperms can easily reach the ova or egg and rest of the process will be followed. There can be many examples like this.

What We Learn From This

  1. It is not only the Female in whom Infertility is caused. Rather the same percentage of the problem is due to the Male part
  2. Natural Intercourse has to be done from 10 days to 17 days of Female Cycle. It is very important to note the Day 1 when the bleeding starts.
  3. If there is no baby after natural intercourse for One year, no need to be in hopelessness. First and foremost, both of the male and female should be investigated. There are many treatment options available including medications.
