Pregnancy 101 for first-time moms:

Especially if this is your first pregnancy, you may not know how to prepare yourself and your home for this exciting time. To help address these concerns, we’ve put together our best advice for pregnant women, including how to research the birth process and find your healthcare provider. Learn about the birth process. It is very important to know how the process of childbirth happens. This will not only meet your expectations but will also help ease any concerns you may have. But remember that every mother’s birth experience is different. One way to research and prepare for the birth process is to decide what type of birth you want.

Vaginal birth

Caesarean section (Caesarean section)

Water birth

Birth by a midwife or doula

Create a birth plan:

Creating a birth plan allows you to detail your wishes for labour and birth so that you can discuss them with your partner and health care provider. It’s a way to explain what’s most important to you.

When you come to the Mother Baby Center to deliver your baby, be sure to share your birth plan with your care team and nurses. This will tell you what breathing, pressure and delivery techniques you want to try, as well as your wishes regarding medical intervention and delivery if needed.

Find a healthcare provider you like:

Your healthcare provider should work with you and listen to you throughout your pregnancy. You want to make sure the provider is willing to listen to your preferences, answer your questions, and help you through the process. If your provider doesn’t do these things, consider finding another provider.

Pay attention to the stages of pregnancy:

Every pregnancy is different, but it’s important to pay attention to each of the three standard stages, or trimesters, that pregnant women go through during the nine months of pregnancy. The first trimester is 0-3 months, the second trimester is 4-6 months and the third trimester is 7-9 months. Don’t ask Google, ask your doctor.

Instead of asking your questions online, we recommend writing them down and asking them the next time you see your healthcare provider. Using the internet to answer questions may escalate the situation and questions may be asked at an inappropriate level. It is always best to consult a professional who knows you and your pregnancy process well.

Be kind to yourself:

The next tip, and probably the most important, is to always be kind to yourself at every stage of your pregnancy. You may be going through many changes, from your body to your emotions, but being kind to yourself always helps. Here are some tips to get you started:

Engage in positive self-talk.

Make time for your favourite relaxing activities.

Please take care of your mental health.

What first-time moms need to know about pregnancy:

If you’ve never been pregnant, there are a few things your body may do and feel differently. Here are some things first-time moms should know:

Spider veins (these are temporary):

Spider veins are small, thin veins that can be seen through the skin. This is caused by increased blood flow in the veins during pregnancy and is usually harmless and temporary.

Stomach itching:

You may feel itching, but there is no need to worry. This usually happens because the skin is stretched.

Very vivid dreams:

You may experience a variety of emotions (some of them intense) during pregnancy. Therefore, the brain tries to process those emotions through vivid dreams.

Lactation may occur early:

During pregnancy, the breasts begin to produce milk, so before giving birth, it is completely normal to breastfeed early.

Changes in sex drive:

There are hormonal and emotional changes during pregnancy that can alter your sex drive, but don’t worry, this is normal.
