However, there’s much more you can do with turmeric – consuming this golden spice is linked to a number of health benefits.

Provides relief from arthritis pain

The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric have been helpful in treating rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis in Ayurveda. The antioxidants present in this spice work to destroy free radicals that damage the body cells. Turmeric contains a compound called aromatic turmerone, which repairs damaged brain stem cells. Curcumin, a bioactive compound in turmeric, may be involved in improving the function of the tissues that line your blood vessels. Blockage in these blood vessels is a major part of heart disease. Curcumin is closely related to reducing inflammation and oxidation (as mentioned above), factors that greatly contribute to turmeric’s heart health benefits.

Makes an effective antidepressant

Curcumin makes up only 3 of turmeric by weight. Because many of the curcumin benefits you need to reap the benefits of using it in regular cooking, curcumin supplements are often used for their health benefits. And one of these benefits of turmeric may be its antidepressant effect.
