Indian Cancer Genome Atlas initiates compilation of data on multiple cancers

Indian Cancer Genome Atlas (ICGA) launched a comprehensive multi-cancer data portal. The platform provides Indian cancer patients with open access to clinically relevant data and aims to transform cancer research and treatment for the Indian population.

Historically, cancer treatment in India has been based on Western datasets. However, cancers in Indian patients may be different at the molecular level. ICGA aims to create India-specific datasets to help researchers and clinicians develop personalized treatment plans.

A comprehensive resource providing detailed multi-omics data for breast cancer patients, including genomic and proteomic data. The platform is derived from the world-renowned cBioPortal, which ensures seamless integration with global cancer research efforts. It provides up to 500 measurements per year of clinically annotated DNA, RNA and protein profiles, as well as medical history and patient outcomes.

The portal is free and open to the scientific community in compliance with responsible and ethical data sharing practices. As a step towards precision oncology, the program aims to develop personalized cancer treatment for Indian patients.

ICGA invites researchers from around the world to contribute to and expand this platform by encouraging international collaboration in cancer research.

Shekhar C. Breakthroughs in cancer treatment said Mandy, former executive director of CCR and now senior professor at Savitribai Fuller UniversityDr. Jesse Jenkelson, director of the National Institutes of Health’s Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Sunil Badov, vice chair of the Cancer Pathology Program in the Department of Pathology and Experimental Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

“We are excited to actively contribute to ICGA to accelerate the development of this initiative by understanding the genomes of cancer patients,” the joint statement said.ICGA President and CEO Dr. Anand Deshpande said:

“This portal provides researchers with the information they need to advance personalized cancer research that leads to better treatment outcomes, and encourage everyone to contribute to this important cause of our progress. The fight against cancer.”
