Symptoms of arthritis could potentially be reversed by implementing “six pillars of lifestyle medicine” according to a new study. Tamiko Katsumoto, an expert in immunology and rheumatology, joined the podcast Zoe climbing on the “exciting” revelation.
Participants with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis underwent six lifestyle changes over 16 weeks for the study, but the expert said: “Even at eight weeks, in the middle, they saw spectacular improvements in the patient’s joint disease.”
The Dutch study brought participants to a “lifestyle intervention”, adjusting the six pillars of lifestyle medicine. Dr. Katsumoto noted that it is: “The diet is the number one, in addition; Exercise, reduction in stress, social connections, sleep, then finally avoid risky substances.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis had a” very significant difference “in terms of what they felt at the end of the study. But I was most struck by the fact that some of them were able to wean these drugs, which was striking. Dr. Katsumoto continued:” The reason why I have become so excited to see the results of osteoarthritis is that we have no excellent treatments for (osteoarthritis).
This is one of the most common, debilitating conditions, many of us get it, and yet we often have no good answers “and therefore the fact that this lifestyle intervention showed such a promising result. I think it was really exciting for the field.
