Experts discuss the full potential of in vitro fertilization and preservation of ethical and social standards.

A team of experts at Chennai’s Prashanth Hospital is encouraging young couples to seek help from fertility specialists if they are having trouble conceiving at a young age.   Wednesday – the eve of World IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) Day – as part of the wellness series. Four obstetricians, gynecologists and infertility doctors – C Geeta Haripriya, consultant and Samhita Madhuri hospital director – offer early treatment to 20-year-old girls and teenagers to save their ovaries.

“Health and safety are important. If you have other conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid dysfunction, it is better to get tested as early as possible to avoid facing fertility problems later in life,” says Dr Samita.

“Although 65% of India’s population is under 35 years of age, infertility is a major problem” and the birth rate is declining”

More than a million babies are born through artificial insemination.   However, IVF is a controversial topic and infertility is considered a social taboo.   “But IVF has brought hope to millions of infertile patients, with success rates of 65-87%.”

Dr Abrajda talks about the financial burden of IVF cycles and how it drains families emotionally and resources.   However, he said myths about IVF need to be dispelled as misconceptions about infertility still exist.

Dr. Giza said it is important for people to treat infertility, the need for early diagnosis and treatment of the condition, and an open discussion about reproductive health.

Dr. Geetha added that modern medicine now offers many innovative technologies such as ovarian retrieval, stem cell therapy, non-surgical genetic testing and artificial intelligence interventions to monitor high pregnancy rates after the first IVF cycle.

Assisted reproductive technology experts recommend the flexibility of single-embryo transfer and egg storage for women in the third trimester of pregnancy to preserve their fertility.   According to doctors, IVF guidelines recommend 50 years for women with low egg quality and thin uterus and 55 years for men with low sperm count.
