Try some tips to keep you happier, more in control, and better able to deal with life’s ups and downs.

Manage your stress levels:

If you have a lot of stress in your life, find ways to reduce stress, such as learning time management techniques.

Exercise regularly and take time for yourself. These are positive changes. Managing your time in this way can effectively reduce stress.

If you are feeling stressed as well as anxious, breathing exercises can help. Try these breathing techniques to relieve stress.

You can also try the practical self-help cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques on the Every Mind Matters website to manage stress and anxiety, solve problems, and build resilience.

Enjoy yourself:

Enjoying yourself is good for your mental health.

Simple activities like watching sports with a friend, taking a bath, or going out for coffee with a friend can improve your day.

Doing something good, like cooking or dancing, is a good way to have fun and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Avoid doing things that may seem fun at the time, like drinking too much alcohol or eating junk food, but may make you feel worse later.

Increase self-esteem:

Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself.

The best way to improve your self-esteem is to treat yourself positively and honestly, like a dear friend.

Be careful when you’re short changing yourself. For example, it’s probably not a good idea to think, “You’re stupid for not getting that job,” or instead, “Maybe I should tell my best friend about this.”

Instead, say something positive to yourself, like, “You’re talented and you’ll get the next job.”

Maintain a healthy lifestyle:

Limit your alcohol intake. When we are going through hard times, we drink alcohol to “numb” our painful emotions.

However, some emotions may become exaggerated and make you feel angry or aggressive. This can make you feel even more depressed.

Choose a balanced diet:

Making healthy choices about food helps you become mentally strong. Your self-esteem will increase because you are doing something positive for yourself.

Proper diet helps your brain and body work more efficiently. Aim to eat a balanced diet that includes all the major food groups. get some exercise. Even light exercise releases mood-enhancing chemicals in your brain. Improve your sleep quality, increase your energy, and keep your heart healthy.

Do some exercise:

If it helps, do it with a friend or listen to music. Adults should aim for at least 150 minutes per week.

Get enough sleep:

Adults require an average of 7 to 8 hours of sleep to fully rest their body and mind. Writing a to-do list for the next day before you sleep helps organise your thoughts and keep you from getting distracted. Discuss and share: Whether it’s with friends, family or advisors, communication is important.

Talking about stress outside instead of keeping it inside can help relieve it. It helps in strengthening relationships and connecting with people. Many people find it very helpful to talk to a counsellor about what is bothering them.

Be flexible:

Flexibility helps you deal with the ups and downs of life.

Doing something meaningful during difficult times can help build resilience.

Doing something creative with a bad experience, such as starting a support group to help others, writing, painting, or singing, can be an expression of pain and difficulty. Helps you deal with difficult times.
