Mumbai. Clinically, the HCG Human Cancer Center (HGCMCC) in Nashik performed the world’s first robotic-assisted mastectomy (RNSM) using the Versius CMR system.

A 35-year-old woman was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery in March 2024. Nipple-sparing breast tissue (NSM) is usually completely removed, leaving only the nipple, areola, and a small area of skin.   Open surgical technique.

However, the HCG Manavata team has pioneered a minimally invasive approach using robotic assistance to increase accuracy and efficiency through 3D visualization.

This procedure ensures that the mastectomy is completed without compromising the integrity of the tumor and significantly improves the cosmetic results.

“The patient underwent 8 cycles of chemotherapy followed by surgery in July 2024. Because she tested positive for a BRCA gene mutation and had a family history of breast cancer, it was necessary to remove the entire breast and lymph nodes, which also had the other side.

Dr. Nakar said in a statement that the benefits of this surgery for patients are amazing.

“RNSM technology provides high-quality cosmetic results, preserves the nipple-areola complex and, most importantly, does not interfere with sensations, increases patient satisfaction and improves postoperative psychological well-being, accelerates the healing process, shortens hospital stay and reduces  stains.”

HCGMCC successfully performed RNSM on a breast cancer patient with a small stage 1 tumor and no axillary lymph node involvement. The surgery involves breast reconstruction using autologous back muscles and fat tissue.

Apart from Dr. Nagarkar, there were Dr. Aditya Adhav, Dr. Rajendra Dhondage, Dr. Rajendra Bhamari, Dr. Utkarsh Asgaonkar, Dr. Praveen Surpur, Dr. Palak Naik, Dr. Rabindra Tandel and Dr. Jitendra Mahajan.  Assist with anesthesia.
