Chandipura Virus: Urban Death

AHMEDABAD: The state crossed the 100 mark of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) cases on Tuesday.   The state reported 13 new cases in 24 hours, including two from Ahmedabad, taking the total to 101.

Of the total cases, 10 are from Sabah cantonment, 9 from Ahmedabad and 6 each from Erbil, Mahishagarh, Kedah and Mehsana.Of the 38 deaths so far, 5 deaths have been reported from Panchmahal and 3 each from Alabuli, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Morbi and Banaskantha.

According to sources, the new case is Chand Kedar’s six-year-old son. Two 11-year-old girls from Sardarnagar and Amraiwadi districts are undergoing treatment in private hospitals, he added.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) teams conducted smoke removal and sanitation operations in the affected areas and sprayed organophosphorus insecticides.   Groups are asking residents to report encephalitis-like symptoms.

Central teams started visiting the affected areas on Tuesday, state health department officials said.”So far, 416,000 houses have been covered with mud walls.
